Saturday night witnessed the starriest of Lib Dem fringe occasions: the Blog of the Year awards. Ah, it takes me back. Four years ago, I won the inaugural prize. It was the last time I was eligible to win it — which is just as well, because I don’t think I’d get a look-in now.
This year was the first year I’ve had no vested interest at all: neither a nominee nor a judge. But I did get to co-compere — with ‘Blog of the Year’ organiser, Helen Duffett — the extravaganza that is the annual ‘BOTY’ shindig.
You can tell we’re in government now. Normally, we’re shoved into a small bar in the basement, where there’s a raucous, anarchic but thoroughly good-natured atmosphere. This year, we went posh: not a bar, but a suite in the Hilton, dahlins. It made proceedings a bit more starchy… next year, I hope we can revert to more rable-rousing type. Alternatively I’ll have to get dolled-up in Black Tie in keeping with our newly acquired Status-with-a-capital-S.
Anyway, if you missed it all — or were there and just want to enjoy the event one more time (especially if you won) — then my LibDemVoice.org colleague Alex Foster has kindly ensured it can be preserved for posterity by recording the whole event, which should be available to listen to or download below…
