Top of the Blogs: The Golden Dozen #83

by Stephen Tall on September 22, 2008

Welcome to the 83rd of our weekly round-ups from the Lib Dem blogosphere, featuring the seven most popular stories according to click-throughs from the Aggregator (14th-20th September), together with a hand-picked quintet you might otherwise have missed.

How about starting with the most popular blog-posting, and we work our way down? Here goes:

1. The untrue story of Liberal Democrat conference on Jeremy Hargreaves’ blog.
Launching broadside against rubbish meedja reporting of politics.

2. Exclusive: Eye-Witness Account of Adrian Sanders’ Violence on Julian H’s Orange By Name blog.
Forget the tax debate, this was the Bournemouth bust-up you were all reading about last week.

3. How Liberal are the Liberal Democrats on Alex Folkes’ A Lanson Boy blog.
“Mark Littlewood, former Head of Press for the Party, knows how to create a story.” Indeed he does (with a little help).

4. An Open Letter to Nick Clegg on James Graham’s Quaequam Blog! blog.
An alternative way to continue a conversation with the Lib Dem leader.

5. Cold calling gets cold shoulder on Jonathan Calder’s Liberal England blog.
Think it’s fair to say Nick Clegg’s efforts to call 250,000 voters in one night didn’t please absolutely everyone.

6. That Adrian Sanders / Mark Littlewood contretemps on Lib Dem Voice.
Yes, you guys just couldn’t get enough of this story.

7. Conference, Getting Home, Rubbish News and Great Sausages on Alex Wlcock’s Love and Liberty blog.
Find out what provoked Nick Clegg to exclaim, “Blimey!”, when he and Alex met at breakfast.

And now to the five slots we reserve under the category ‘well worth reading even if they didn’t get the most clicks this week’. Remember, if you do want to highlight a Lib Dem blog article published in the past seven days – your own, or someone else’s – all you have to do is drop me a line at (providing the web-link and author, and any tagline comment you care to have published).

For perhaps the first time ever, ALL this week’s hand-picked five have been nominated by LDV readers. Okay, only two of you, but, still, it’s an advance on the usual “Mrs Trellis of North Wales” influx of one.

8. Fellows take back control of the Royal Society
on Rob Fenwick’s A posh-sounding Northumbrian blog.
Lamenting the resignation of Michael Reiss from The Royal Society: “the loss of a good man who was misquoted, misinterpreted, and eventually hung out to dry when the Society shut down, rather than encouraged a debate [about creationism].”

9. What is Libertarianism? on Tristan Mills’ Liberty Alone blog.
The first of a trio of nominations from Julian H: “a variety of definitions and nuances, good work from Mr Mills.”

10. Democracy in Action on Charlotte Gore’s Blog:
“Extremely funny, especially when read at 3am in a Bournemouth hotel room.” [Who says Lib Dems don’t know how to party? – Ed.]

11. Creative Destruction on James Oates’ Cicero’s Songs blog.
“On the credit crisis, a voice of calm among the madness.”

12. The bestest film about party conference, ever
on Pink Dog’s blog.
Yes, it’s the alternative Lib Dem Bone Report.

That’s it for this week. Happy blogging ’til next conference.
