Top of the Blogs: the Golden Dozen #4

by Stephen Tall on March 18, 2007

The fourth of our weekly round-ups from the Lib Dem blogosphere, featuring the seven most popular stories according to click-throughs from the Aggregator, together with a hand-picked quintet you might otherwise have missed.

After last week’s post-Harrogate post mortem, this week’s list has a more eclectic feel. So, here we go, in descending order of popularity:

1. ‘Lembit’s played a blinder!’ from Nich Starling’s Norfolk Blogger blog.
Deserved praise for Mr Öpik’s barnstorming Question Time performance.

2. ‘BREAKING NEWS New Lib Dem candidate for London Mayor?’ from Pink Dog’s eponymous blog.
No, not Lembit despite the rumours. Ken must already be quaking in his boots at this news; time to Pack up and go.

3. ‘Tory tips for beating the Lib Dems’ from Nich Starling again.
Highlighting one of the more complacent posts to appear on ConservativeHome: “When people ask, what party are you from? I say a new party.” Hmmm.

4. ‘A reply from Ming’ on Jonny Wright’s Hug a Hoodie blog.
Responding to criticism of that speech in Harrogate. (And what do you mean you’ve never heard of Facebook?)

5. ‘Clueless?’ by Peter on the Liberal Review blog.
Poor David Mundell… rejected by the Lib Dems, he ended up (faute de mieux) as the Tories’ shadow secretary of state for Scotland. That’s some punishment.

6. ‘Tory Gaffe of the week – poll.’ again by Peter, again on the Liberal Review blog.
Talk about spoilt for choice – currently, Patrick Mercer is in first place, for “showing that one Tory stereotype has legs left in it.”

7. ‘Frank Luntz on Ming Campbell’ on (ahem) Stephen Tall’s A Liberal Goes A Long Way blog.
Two names guaranteed to catapult any post into the Lib Dem blogosphere’s top seven.

And here’s another five you may not have read, but should have done:

8. ‘More heat than light in global warming debate’ on Tom Papworth’s Liberal Polemic blog.
So much for rational academic discourse… Michael Durkin has a temper tantrum following his Channel 4 show, The Great Global Warming Swindle.

9. ‘Blogmeet report’ on Alex Foster’s Niles’s Blog.
Struggling to remember what the Lib Dems have to offer on a night out in Nottingham.

10. ‘The ‘five tests’ raise deeply worrying questions about strategy’ by Charles Anglin for Lib Dem Voice.
Worried Ming’s Harrogate speech might be a precursor to a coalition with Labour.

11. ‘Notes from the Campaign’ on David Morton’s The Republic of Hyde Park blog.
Remembers why he first fell in love with the Liberal Party while stuffing envelopes in Burmantofts and Richmondhill ward in Leeds.

12. ‘Independent on Sunday: “Dope is Bad After All”’ on Chris Keating’s The Diary of Chris K blog.
Yawns at the Sindy resiling from liberalization, and points out the always-ignored obvious: criminalizing drug use doesn’t stop folk using drugs.

That’s all for another week, folks…
